About Clover Autos
Ronald A Fern
M.I.MechE, A.A.E,
I.Eng, M.I.M.I.
Ronnie completed a five year light vehicle technician apprenticeship (the last year these were held) with Abridge Engineering and became a fully qualified member of the Institute of the Motor Industry (M.I.M.I.), a Fully qualified Technician Engineer on the Engineers registration board (T.Eng.) and achieved a City and guilds full technological certificate. Ronnie then went on over the next ten years to be elected an advanced automotive engineer by the I.M.I., elected a Licentiate Automotive Engineer by the I.M.I., awarded a Road Transport Industry Training Board certificate of competence (R.T.I.T.B.), an East London Group Training Association Certificate of Training (R.T.I.T.B) and automatically being granted a level three N.V.Q. (I.M.I)
After leaving Abridge Engineering he then became one of the eight man Team Akai Audi Works racing team at Silverstone in 1979, the aim being to win the British Saloon car championship with drivers Stirling Moss, Tony Lanfranchi and Richard Lloyd – a goal achieved in 1980.
He also worked with Silverstone based GTI Engineering and was part of a team which highly modified, both mechanically and superficially, the then new Golf GTI for customers including the Marquis of Blandford.
Ronnie then returned to road-going cars and started Clover Autos with a mobile Workshop realising that there was a market in high standard servicing and repairing of customers cars at home and at work.
He was soon employing his brother Dave Fern M.I Diag.E. also a VW and Audi trained mechanic.
Dave had worked for Wells of Woodford before joining Hailey Motor Co., a VW and Audi Main Dealership, and is very proud to be a long-standing member of the prestigious Institute of Diagnostic Engineers.
In 1984 Clover Autos bought out Murry Motors in Hemnall Street, Epping and continued to work hard building a friendly honest reputation in Epping and the surrounding area mainly through customer recommendations.
It was when the business outgrew its Hemnall Street base in 1994 that it established itself in North Weald.
In 1998 Clover Autos expanded into the workshop unit next door and also started the Tyre Save division of the business to supply quality tyres at competitive prices, five years later in 2003 an MOT bay was built using the latest equipment available.
Clover Autos prides itself on being unlike a “typical” garage, Ronnie and Dave try hard to make customers, male or female, feel at ease in all of their dealings with them.
All customers past present or future are welcome to call in for a no obligation chat about their car problems.
