MOT Testing Procedure


The details below give an overview of the MOT test procedure. From time to time the regulations will change so pease do check with the following official MOT sites if you have any questions or concerns.

There are 9 parts to the MOT test. Below we have outlined a summary of what you can expect your vehicle to be tested on.

Part 1 Lighting and Signalling Equipment

  • All lights

  • Reflectors

  • Functioning horn

Part 2 Steering and suspension

  • Steering system and control

  • All suspension including wheel bearings and drive shafts

  • Shock absorbers

Part 3 Brakes

  • Parking brake lever mechanism and mountings

  • Hand operated brake control valves

  • Anti-lock braking system

  • Mechanical and hydrolic brake components

  • Brake Performance

Part 4 Tyres and wheels

Part 5 Seat belts

Part 6 Body and structure

  • Vehicle structure, body security and condition

  • Doors and seats

  • Registration plates and VIN plate

  • Spare wheel carrier

  • Speed limiter

Part 7 Fuel and emissions

  • Exhaust system

  • Fuel system

  • Exhaust emissions-spark ignition and compression ignition

Part 8 View of the road

  • Mirrors

  • Windsceen including wipers and washers

  • Bonnet

Part 9 Motor tricycles and quadricycles
